L'auteur est lui aussi un personnage du roman. Son vécu s'insère dans la trame du récit. Il nous emmène de Paris à Jérusalem, de New York à Tel-Aviv, de Beyrouth à Gaza.
De Safed à Pékin. Au cours de son cheminement, il dépeint divers aspects de la vie juive, du judaïsme et de sa mystique ainsi que des événements qui ont marqué l'Histoire de l'Etat d'Israël.
